Technology Standards Alignment Page
Here we hope to provide resources for Wisconsin
school personnel that will facilitate the integration of the
Wisconsin
Model Academic Standards for Information and Technology
Literacy (ITLS) into instructional
programs throughout the state. The resources listed here and, in
particular, the two alignment worksheets that follow are our attempt
to provide tools for the user to meld together Wisconsin's Model
Academic Standards for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science
and Social Studies and the ITLS.
As stated in the published ITLS standards:" The purpose of these standards is to identify information and technology content and performance standards for all students throughout the pre-kindergarten to grade twelve (PK-12) curriculum. The standards are designed to be integrated into the various content and skill areas of the school curriculum. The focus is on learning with information and technology rather than learning about information and technology. This integration will be varied and diverse based on the curricula of individual schools and school systems. The task force hopes that much reflective dialogue will occur in school districts among administrators, curriculum directors, library media specialists, technology coordinators, teachers, parents, and community members as each district adopts or modifies these standards and integrates them into the local instructional program for students."
In our efforts to help districts conduct the reflective dialogue required for comprehensive integration, we offer two worksheet formats for school use. Each set of worksheets may be viewed online. They may also be downloaded as a pdf file that may be viewed and printed with the readily available Adobe Acrobat Reader program or the worksheets may be downloaded as Microsoft Word 97/98 files which the user may edit and adapt as needed for local use.
- The first set of worksheets provides the user with each of the ITLS content and performance standards and offers the user space to identify grade levels, activities and local objectives that reinforce each standard. We consider this a rudimentary tool for evaluating curriculum in terms of how a specific component of the ITLS is being taught, practiced, or assessed.
- The second set of worksheets provides our interpretation of how some of the specific performance standards within the core curricular standards support, and are supported by, the ITLS. We have condensed some of the language of the standards to save space. This worksheet also provides ample space for the user to include information on how the local curriculm supports these standards. This is a much more comprehensive document and we hope it supports discussion and integration efforts in districts across the state. Please note that there is much room for local interpretation and adaptation when considering these alignments and we offer this content only as examples of possible associations that can be made.
Finally, we offer a few related links that have been identified that may assist districts in further standards activities.
Please let us know if these resources are of value to you and how they might be changed to better serve your needs. Special thanks to the many contributors to these efforts.
