John Muir was born in Scotland. He spent much of his boyhood on a farm near Portage, WI. The name of the farm was Fountain Lake Farm. While he was on the farm he spent a lot of his time studying nature. Eventually he became a naturalist.

He was especially concerned about the forests and the way people were treating them. Through his efforts he helped to found Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. He also founded the Sierra Club. There is even a park named after John Muir. The park is located near Madison. WI.

Laura Ingalls Wilder was born on February 7, 1867 in Pepin, WI. She was born in a little house in the big Wisconsin woods. Soon after that her family moved to a house in Missouri. Laura's childhood was all about traveling. The Ingalls family ended up moving a lot.

Laura Ingalls Wilder became well known by becoming an author of the Little House books in 1932. Her stories told about her adventures and experiences she had as a child. She continued to write about her experiences as she got older too. Some of her books are: Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, By the Shores of Silver Lake, and Farmer Boy.

Harry Houdini (Ehrich Weiss) was born in 1874 and he grew up near Appleton and Milwaukee. When he was young he played card tricks. When he got older he did bigger stunts like getting out of a box that was chained together and locked. He once escaped from a locked box that was dropped into a river. Harry Houdini eventually died because of stomach injury. Houdini was proud of the strong stomach muscles that he had. He once challenged a guy to punch him in the stomach as hard as he could. Before Harry Houdini got a chance to tighten his stomach muscles the guy punched him. The punch was so strong that it damaged Houdini's internal organs and he died.
Frank Lloyd Wright was born in 1867 in Richland Center, WI. He became well- known because of his ability to design unusual buildings. He built a hotel in Tokyo, Japan, and it could withstand an earthquake. Wright has also built many other structures. His home,Taliesin, can be seen near Spring Green , WI.
Bob LaFollette was born in Madison, WI in 1895. He became a well-known Wisconsinite because of his involvement in the government. He was the first Wisconsin governor that was born in the state. He served as governor from 1901-1906. Bob became known as "Fighting Bob LaFollette" because he really worked hard for what he believed in. His efforts in government have really helped a lot of people.

Bob LaFollette was a United States senator from 1906 to 1925. He worked to improve the ways of the Wisconsin people.
