Cranberries
                        By Jessica

The Cranberry is an interesting plant. It has many features. The Cranberry is a round, edible, juicy, red plant. A cranberry is a dark red, almost maroonplant. It has leaves. Most cranberries flower into beautiful looking plants. To me, theyhave a sweet, watery smell. Cranberries grow in bogs or marshes. Cranberries need sun, water, sandy soil, and a bog or marsh to grow. They mature in 4-5 years. Cranberries are harvested in September through October.

Cranberries are producers in the food chain. People use cranberries in many ways. They use them for food such as muffins, jams, pies, many kinds of fruit juices, and sometimes people eat them plain. During the winter cranberries are dormant. The bogs where they live are flooded with water, so  the plantsdo not freeze. After that , the water freezes to protect the berries.
Cranberries were first really popular in Massachusetts. Wisconsin is now the leading state that produces cranberries. Other states where cranberries are produced are Oregon, Washington, and New Jersey. All of those states are in the northen part of the United States.
