Blue Flag Iris
Field Characteristics

The Blue Flag Iris is a perennial herb, usually 10-80 cm.
high. This Iris tends to form in large clumps from its thick,
horizontal stem. The upright stems generally have basal leaves
that are more than 1cm. wide. The leaves are folded in the middle
part of the leaves, and they form an overlapping flat fan. The flower
petals are spread out nearly flat and have 2 forms. The flower is
usually light to deep blue, and blooms during May to July. The
large seeds can be seen during the fall. The Blue Flag Iris is common
in sedge meadows, marshes, and along streambanks and shores.
