International Crane Foundation
The International Crane Foundation was founded in 1973 and became the center for studing and protecting cranes.  The mission of the foundation is to work world wide to protect cranes and the wetlands where they live.  The ICF is dedicated to providing the experience, inspiration, and the knowledge to involve people  in resolving threats to the ecosystem.  In order to accomplish this misssion, the ICF has to rely on a wide range of educational and conservation activities that are directed toward the many countries where cranes live.  A collection of captive cranes are maintained at their main headquarters which is near Baraboo, Wisconsin.  This headquarters allows scientists to pursue two vital techniques for crane preservation which are captive breeding and reintroduction into the wild.
The International Crane Foundation is also concerned about habitat protection and restoration.  The ICF strives to alert government officials, the public, and scientists about dependence of cranes on their habitat.
