Coconut palms are found in the southeastern parts of Asia and the islands of Melanesia in the Pacific Ocean They stand from 40 to 100 feet high and have feather-like leaves that spread out from the top of  their branchless trunks. They may live up to 100 years. Coconuts grow in clusters among the leaves and range from 6 to 12 inches across. A tree may produce up to 100 coconuts a year.
People have introduced coconuts to all the tropical and subtropical parts of the world. They are very useful. People are cutting them to build houses and make hats, mats, and baskets. They use coconuts for milk and to add to foods like candy bars.
