Sumatran Tiger
                            credit 2
The Sumatran tiger lives in the forests of Sumatra and Southeast Asia.  They are usually 30 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh from 200-450 pounds.  They are darker than other tigers and often have reddish-brown fur. They have large muscles which make it easy for them to jump.
These tigers like to live alone except during mating season. They mate at any time during the year and have 3 or 4 cubs at a time. The cubs are taught to hunt by the time they are one year old.
They are meat eaters and rely on their sense of sight and hearing rather than smell. They have very long wiskers which help them find their way in the dark. Antelope, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and snakes are their main food.
Sumatra has had a lot of farming development so a lot of tigers have disappeared.  It is estimated there are only 650 left.
