The Green Mamba
Did you know that there is a snake whose venom is so powerful it can kill 250 people per drop?  It is located in Central and South Africa and often lives in the Congo, Ethiopia, and Napal.

It is a front fanged snake.  It has short tube shaped fangs and is one of the quickest, venomous snakes in the world.  It is very slender, with a narrow head and very big eyes.  The average length is 5 feet to 7.12 feet.  The green mamba looks like a harmless green tree snake so people try to touch them.  This is a good way for the mamba to have a snack on someone or something!

There was a story about one man in Africa who drove his car right under a tree and then left on a trail.  When he got back, he found a big green snake on his car.  He though it was harmless, so he picked it up, put it in his pocket, and left.  Later when he realized it was a green mamba, he was really scared because it was so close to his skin.
.
The green mamba is a good hunter who sends out very interesting sounds that attract different kinds of animals or sometimes people.  If a person comes near, the green mamba stands as tall as the person or animal, then bunches forward at the neck.  If he strikes the person or animal, the venom is injected and the victim is paralyzed and dead within seconds.

The green mamba lays eggs that are slightly smaller than that of a black mamba.  The breeding season is spring and early summer. When the babies are hatched, they are about 15-24 inches long and can kill rats and mice by themselves.  The babies are bluish green but become brighter as they grow older. This  is my favorite snake. I hope you like it too.
