Giant Anteater

Giant anteaters live in the northern half of South America and the southern half of Central America. They prefer to live in humid forests. The have poor eyesite but a good sense of smell. Their heads are tubed shaped with long slender snouts that have no teeth. Their tongues are two feet long and they use them to push into ants nests to get their food. They stay at the nest for no more than a minute so the ants can't sting them. Carperter ants are their favorite food and they stay away from red ants and army ants.
Spring is the time for anteaters to mate. Six months later they give birth to one young. The baby is carried on the mother's back for awhile but after two years he is independent.
