The governor talked to students on Earth day 2003 - here is his a talk available by streaming.

Do you know what a natural resource is? A natural resource is something from nature that we use to make goods. For example, Wisconsin has many different types of trees. Can you guess what goods these trees are made into? You use these items everyday for school. If you guessed pencils, paper, chairs, or any other item made from wood, you are right! Wisconsin has other natural resources too. Soil, water, animals, plants, and minerals are also found throughout our state.

Natural Resources are very important for many reasons. The soil found in Wisconsin is great for growing crops. That is why Wisconsin is known as the Dairy State. Iron ore, copper, and zinc or only three ofthe many minerals that our state has. Water comes from our many lakes, including two of the Great Lakes. They are Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. The Mississippi River on the west border of Wisconsin also provides transportation to many of our citizens. Animals of various kinds can be found in Wisconsin's forests. Many plants produce food for people. Blueberries, huckleberries, and Juneberries are a few.

Since the land has a limited supply of natural resources, many people are worried about using them all up. That is why our country recycles! By recycling our natural resources, we can make our supply last longer.

Click on any one of the natural resources listed. You will be able to learn more about them, and why they make Wisconsin such a great state! So hang on and click away!
