Partridge Berry

 Family:  Bedstraw [rubs]

Common Name:  Partridge Berry

Habitat:  Japan, Alaska, Florida, Texas, Wisconsin and Colorado.

Growing Season:  May- July.

Plant Size:  4 to 12 inch long.

Significant Characteristics/ Feature for Identification: Its leaves are rounded.  The flowers are white or pink, 4- parted; terminals flowers. Each flower produces a single dry berry that lasts over the winter.

Uses: Historically dried or fresh leaf or berry tea was used for piles, dysentery. Externally used as a wash for swelling hives, arthritis, or rheumatism.

Folklore: It's the beloved food of the partridge. That's why we have the best partridges. Cherokee nation had believed that if you drink the tea it would make labor easier.
