Family - winter green 

Species - ismonotropa uniflora

Indian pipe plants

Habitat:  It is found in shady woodlands areas in North America and Eastern Asia.

Common Names:  Ghost flower, Corpes flower, and Ice plant.

Plant size:  Indian Pipe is 3 to 4 inches.

Significant Characteristics/Features for identification:  The Indian Pipe has 4 or 5, bell shaped petals, and a thick scaly stem.

Uses:  The American Indians used this plant for eye lotion.

Folklore:  This flower droops over, American Indians called it the peace pipe. American Indians thought  the clear juice from the stem would sharpen their vision.
